What are the Access facilities at the Cathedral?

  • A staircase and lift situated in the lower porch provide access to the Cathedral from the underground car park to Cathedral level. These are both accessible from the car park. Externally there is a sloping path through the garden. The entrance to this path is via a gate at the pavement end of the car park approach road.
  • The Crypt is accessible via a lift situated in the Rotunda sited to the right of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
  • Accessible toilets can be found in the lower porch and at Crypt level also.
  • Wheelchairs are available from the Security Office, which is located in the Cathedral car park.
  • A loop system is fitted in the Cathedral and in the Crypt Chapel.
  • Large type service sheets are available at Sunday services and all choral services and special services.

Are there toilet facilities?
There are toilet facilities available on site.

Are there parking facilities?
There is an underground car park which is open to all visitors during Cathedral opening hours only. There are also spaces for disabled drivers which are clearly marked.
Parking charges are £1.50 for 1 hour; £3.00 for 3 hours; £6.00 all day.
The height restriction for the Cathedral Car Park is 7 foot 6 inches.

Is photography and video permitted inside the Cathedral?
Photography and video is permitted inside of the Cathedral except when a service, concert or rehearsal is taking place. Photography and video is not permitted in the Crypt Treasury.

Can we be married at the Cathedral?
Owing to the large number of requests received from couples wishing to get married at the Cathedral, it is necessary that at least one of the parties must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a baptised Catholic
  • Reside within the Cathedral Parish
  • Attend weekly mass at the Cathedral
  • Or be closely associated with the Cathedral in some way

The Cathedral Parish area comprises approximately one to two square miles in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral.

If a couple satisfies the above criteria they should then contact Ms Claire Hanlon, the Assistant to the Dean, to discuss their wedding arrangements further either by email or by calling 0151 709 9222.

If the couple does not satisfy the criteria we ask that they contact the parish priest of the parish in which they reside to discuss their marriage arrangements.

Can we get our baby baptised at the Cathedral?
Many requests regarding baptism are received at the Cathedral every day of the week. If you would like your child to be baptised at the Cathedral, it is necessary that one of the following criteria are met:

  • The child’s parents must either live within the Cathedral parish boundaries
  • The parents must be closely associated with the Cathedral in some way

The Cathedral Parish area comprises approximately one to two square miles in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral.

If you do not meet the above criteria please contact the parish priest of the parish in which you reside.

How much does it cost to enter a name in the Golden Book of Remembrance ?
