Visit the Cathedral Archives this December Posted on Sunday 3 December 2017

This December, our Archive Department has been focussing on a rather unexpected but much-loved Christmas tradition which took place at St Joseph’s College, Upholland for much of the last century.Until its closure in the 1990’s, St Joseph’s trained young men for the priesthood. However, each Christmas, the college also allowed their students (and staff) to let their hair down for an annual pantomime, which grew in popularity year on year. Many of these pantomime scripts, which were written by members of the college, will be on display in our Archives throughout December, along with photographs and programmes from some of the productions. The scripts and programmes offer a great insight into the personalities and humour that clearly ran through the college. You may even spot a familiar face or two, as many members of our Archdiocese clergy studied at St Joseph’s.

If you would like to view the pantomime records, which span from the 1930’s to the 1980’s, please contact n.sayer@metcathedral.org.uk
