Synod 2020 Listening Event

Gibberd Room

Wednesday 3rd July 2019, 2.00pm - 3.30pm

Synod 2020 will take place in October 2020. This event will see over 400 representatives from across the region come together to shape the future direction of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

In the lead up to Synod 2020, we are undertaking an ambitious and far reaching listening project. Our aim is to listen widely to people’s views on all aspects of the church. The information gathered will go on to form the basis of proposals put forward at Synod 2020.

This initiative will be the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s biggest consultation project in a generation. It offers a real opportunity for people to help shape the aims and values of our church in our changing world.

We are hoping to speak to people of all ages, backgrounds and religious beliefs, and we would love to hear your views.

We will be hosting a number of events here at the Cathedral, with the aim of gathering thoughts and opinions of visitors, pilgrims and regular members of our community.

On Tuesday 25th June, we’ll be hosting a ‘pop-up’ information hub located next to the Cathedral Cafe on the Cathedral steps. All are invited to join us throughout the day for complimentary refreshments as we chat informally about the project.

There will also be two other events on Wednesday 26 June from 7.00pm – 8.30pm, and Wednesday 3 July from 2.00pm – 3.30pm in the Gibberd Room in the Cathedral. People attending are encouraged to share their views on a one-to-one basis with our team of volunteers, who have been specially trained in the process of deep listening.

The focus of the three events will be upon these questions:

What is good about your life now?

What are your concerns and worries?

What does the Church mean to you now and how relevant is it to you?

Having reflected on these things, what are the topics you would like to see on the agenda of Synod 2020?

All views shared are confidential and will go towards shaping the future of our local archdiocese.

We warmly invite everyone to attend, both Catholics and non-Catholics, and we look forward to hearing your views.
