Virtual Tour of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.
THE CHAPEL OF ST JOSEPHSt Joseph´s Chapel lies between the west entrance and the Lady Chapel. Perhaps we can read into its style and furnishings something of the simple craftsmanship associated with the Carpenter of Nazareth. The chapel is lined with vertical pine boarding into which a number of scenes have been carved directly by sculptor Stephen Foster (b1952). The central triptych depicts three memorable incidents in the life of St Joseph - the message of the angel telling him not to fear in taking Mary of Nazareth as his wife - the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem - the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt to escape the massacre by Herod. On the left side of the chapel St Joseph is shown in his carpenter´s workshop instructing the child Jesus. To the right Joseph is portrayed on his death-bed supported by Mary and Jesus. In the centre of the chapel is the simple black slate tomb of Derek Worlock C.H. 8th Archbishop of Liverpool from 1976-1996.
