Baptistry

THE BAPTISTRY

The bronze gates of the Baptistry were designed by David Atkins and presented by the City of Liverpool. In the centre is a simple font made from white marble quarried near Skopye in the former Yugoslavia, like the High Altar. Except during Eastertide when it stands in the main sanctuary of the Cathedral, the Baptistry houses the Paschal Candle designed by Robin McGhie and inspired by the architecture of the Cathedral. There are two wooden sculptures entitled Prophet and Angel by Professor Ernst Blensdorf (1896-1976).
