Weekly Record

28th September 2008

Apologies to those who attend the Solemn Mass this week and who normally sit in blocks H,J,K. Your normal benches are there but hidden under a mound of staging and scaffolding The temporary staging will not be taken down until Monday so as not to cause any unnecessary disturbance. We have closed the area off as we would not want a portion of the congregation sitting higher than the Archbishop. Normal seating will be resumed next week.

Catholic Ramblers LogoToday the Catholic ramblers hold their annual mass in the Crypt Chapel. This is an additional mass to our normal schedule at 11.30am. They will then trek round to the Piazza for lunch hopefully minus their boots. Also today at 3pm the Annual National Police service will take place at the Anglican Cathedral.

This year is the National Year of Reading and there is a special day here on Tuesday for schoolchildren on the theme of reading. It is an afternoon of events including reading of extracts of ‘Robbie the Bobby’ by the author. I’m sure ‘Robbie’ won’t be as interesting as Fr Andrews article introducing himself.

Image of CorbusierWednesday should be a festive day. After the Chapter Mass at 12.15 the Canons join us for lunch – which is normally a great opportunity to get all the news from around the Archdiocese. In the evening there is the preview evening for the sponsors and VIPs to mark the opening of the ‘Le Corbusier-The Art Of Architecture’ exhibition. This will run from 2nd October until January in the Crypt Hall and Concert Hall. It covers the career and enduring legacy of this famous 20th century architect, designer and writer. On display will be drawings, designs, photographs, sculptures, furniture and interiors and it is the major exhibition in the city for the latter half of 2008.
