OTHER CHOIRS AT THE CATHEDRAL

CATHEDRAL CONSORT

The Cathedral Consort consists of the gentlemen of the Cathedral Choir and 6–8 adult female singers and sings on occasions when the Choristers are not available or just need a break! This year the Consort has sung Handel´s Messiah in its entirety as well as tackling repertoire such as Britten´s Hymn to St Cecilia.

CANTATA CHOIR

The Cantata Choir is a chamber choir which performs once a term and rehearses weekly under the auspices of the Concert Society.

CATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA

The Orchestra was formed in 1982 by Philip Duffy, the then Master of the Music at the Cathedral, and from the outset the aim was to take part in both the Cathedral´s concert season and in its major services and to perform music which was not otherwise heard on Merseyside. Although the orchestra has developed considerably since its inception, these are still its basic aims today.

The Orchestra comprises about thirty players, who are encouraged to have a strong sense of commitment. The Orchestra prides itself on the friendly and welcoming atmosphere at all orchestral activities.

The Orchestra has a varied and interesting schedule and frequently performs with the Cathedral Choir. The Performing Rights Society has granted the Cathedral Concerts Society eight awards in the last ten years for enterprise in concert programming.
