Guild of Guides
The Guild of Guides offers a ministry of welcome to visitors from many parts of the country and the world by providing guided tours of the Cathedral for many thousands of visitors each year. They also cater for school groups requiring a general guided tour but please see the entry for the Cathedral Education Service for details of specifically educational tours.
Guides are on duty Mondays – Saturdays from 10am-4pm. Their base is at the welcome desk situated in the porch area inside the Cathedral. A good deal of their work focuses on catering for un-booked individuals or small groups. Larger group are strongly recommended to book in advance. There is no charge for the services of the guides but admission to the Crypt and Treasury is by purchased ticket.
The guides normally work in teams of three and four to ensure a presence in both the Cathedral and Crypt. If you prefer to enjoy the time and space without a tour the guides are on hand to help should you have any questions or comments.
Leaflets in most of the common foreign languages are available from the Guides' Desk, as well as copies of the weekly Cathedral Newsletter.
The raison d’etre of the Guild of Guides is best summed up by our Mission Statement: We aim to be worthy custodians of this Cathedral Church by welcoming each visitor in the name of the Lord and by sharing with each other Christian goodwill, a united sense of purpose and a spirit of commitment.
